The place where today's "House of Books" stands is marked on the 1896 cadastral map of Tbilisi as the summer quarters of the "Tbilisi Circle".
On the 1924 map, the summer quarters of the "Tbilisi Circle" are marked as a club.
In the 1930s, the summer quarters were acquired. Soon, at the beginning of Marjanishvili Street, the "House of Books" was built in the style characteristic of that time (architects - N. Baratashvili, G. Mikaeliani).
This building and the surrounding development contributed to the formation of the architectural character of the beginning of Marjanishvili Street, while the street itself became an important transport artery connecting both parts of the city divided by the Mtkvari River.

For more than 85 years of history, the "House of Books" performed a unique literacy function for the city and the country in general. The Tbilisi Bechdviti Sitkvis Kombinati provided administrative, economic and printing support for the publishing houses and organizations located in this building.
Unique publications were printed here such as: the first Georgian encyclopedia, the Bible, academic, anniversary and gift editions of "The Knight in the Panther's Skin", dictionaries, textbooks for schools and higher educational institutions, medical literature and many others.
The joint-stock company "Bechdviti Sitkvis Kombinati" has enriched the old, unique printing equipment with modern technical equipment and is still a reliable partner in the production of books and other printed products. It has retained all its original functions - it continues to be a host and creates the best conditions for companies that conduct their activities in this building.
